Tort is a very common term which is used to describe damage or any wrongful doing. However, torts tend to describe cases filed by companies for breaches of contracts, and copyright infringement. Personal injury claims are the common legal term which is still a tort but generally refers to people that file claims against other people or companies. Torts are just like other injury claims if the accuser can prove that the defendant acted negligently than getting compensation become very easy. Torts are based on the common law system. However, there are variations between states.

Defamation

Is a legal term that describes when a person or company tarnishes or takes actions to ruin the reputation of another entity. If the accuser can prove direct actions also known as assault against the defendant than getting large amounts of compensation becomes much easier. These cases get a lot of attention and can have some serious penalties for companies that get caught trying to ruin someone’s reputations.

Nuisance

Is a term which commonly describes three things the first is residual actions which people take, which can cause harm such as loud noises or smoke. Nuisance is for very small things, which have no noticeable damage, normally just an annoyance. These rarely get to court and most are handled by the police before. However, there are certain cases, which take weeks to decide in court.

Since tort cases tend to be about complicated matters it normally takes several days for the jury to come to a verdict. Furthermore, if two companies are in a tort against each other it can take years before their lawyers every get into a court room.
